Enhancements to Citation Overview on Scopus
We're thrilled to announce some significant changes coming to Scopus, specifically to the Citation Overview feature! These changes are designed to enhance your experience and the quality of data analysis. The redesign is part of our ongoing efforts to support Scopus users in conducting citation analysis.
What's New?
This redesign was based on user feedback and resulting in improvements in data quality, user experience, performance, and robustness. Here's what you can expect from the new Citation Overview page:
- More Comprehensive Data: Thanks to our new and improved data pipeline, you'll have access to more citations from a broader range of documents.
- Enhanced Visualization: We've redesigned the visualization elements to offer a better user experience, making it easier for you to interpret and analyze citation trends.
- Increased Threshold: We've raised the threshold for generating Citation Overviews online, providing you with more relevant and meaningful insights.
What's Next?
In Q2 2024, we'll be rolling out the Citation Overview Minimum Viable Product (MVP), which will include the following features:
- A limit of 10,000 documents to view citation trends for a set of documents or a maximum of 15 authors.
- A limited set of controls to customize the interactive table and graph.
What Does This Mean for You?
We understand that change can sometimes be challenging, so here's a heads-up on what you might notice:
Possible Changes in Citation Numbers: You may observe slight fluctuations (<1%) in citation numbers compared to the previous version. These changes are due to the evolving content on Scopus and synchronization differences between the old and new backend systems.
Temporary Inconsistencies: While we're transitioning to the new backend system, you may encounter inconsistencies in citation counts across some Scopus pages. Rest assured, our citation count data remains accurate, and these discrepancies will diminish as we progress with the migration.
How to Access Citation Overview
We want to make it as easy as possible for you to leverage the Citation Overview feature. Here are four ways to access it on Scopus:
- Document Selection: Run a document search, select the documents you're interested in (up to 10,000), and click "View citation overview."
- Author Profile Page: When viewing an author's profile, simply click on "Citation overview" below the graph chart.
- Author Selection: Run an author search, select the authors you want to include (up to 15), and click "View citation overview."
- Source Information Page: When viewing source details, click on "View citation overview" next to the publication year or range.
In conclusion, we're excited about these enhancements to Citation Overview on Scopus and confident that they will empower you to conduct even more impactful research. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to evolve and improve our platform!
