Behind the scenes: the Scopus product team (V)

on Tue, 05/06/2014 - 12:03

To round out our series on "who are the people that work on Scopus?" we present you with the Product Marketing team. We're also the people behind this blog and Scopus' social media accounts. If you'd like to get in contact with us, please send an email to Scopus Marketing and we'll get back to you quickly.

Pierre van Doorn,  Marketing Enablement Manager

What is your role on the Scopus team?

I’m responsible for communicating all Scopus product releases to our users and customers. It is essential to keep our users and customers informed on what kind of functionality and content we continue to add to the product. We want users to be able to use Scopus to the fullest. Communication is essential in making them aware of how Scopus can help them in their work. I also make sure that our global sales team is up to date on Scopus and all it has to offer our customers.

What is your favorite part about working on Scopus (and at Elsevier!)?

I like working for Scopus because it has a strong international focus. I work with users, universities and colleagues from across the globe. Elsevier is a great company to work for; it has a nice atmosphere and my colleagues are professional and pleasant to work with.

What’s your favorite feature or search to run in Scopus?

The author search. I’m talking a lot to researchers. I’m interested knowing what they have published and where, which institutes they work with and what their track record is.

What do you do in your free time?
Next to meeting family and friends, I sing in a pop choir, play guitar and study French.

Elizabeth Dyas, Senior Product Marketing Manager

Tell us about yourself.

I graduated with a degree in Marketing and started working in B2B trade publishing with a focus on the construction and financial industries. After a few years in both Washington, DC and New York City, I decided to pursue an MBA at the Rotterdam School of Management in the Netherlands -- the best decision I’ve made! In January 2012, I started working at Elsevier and joined the Scopus team as Senior Product Marketing Manager.

What is your role on the Scopus team?

My role is strategic product marketing. I decide, based on our business objectives, what marketing programs we are going to pursue to support those objectives. I work closely with the Product team as well as Marketing Communications.

What is your favorite part about working on Scopus (and at Elsevier!)?

My favorite part about working at Elsevier on Scopus is that Scopus touches every part of our business and as a result I am able to interact with almost every operational group within Elsevier. From Publishing to Operations to Sales, I have to build connections across the organizations to do my job and make Scopus successful. My favorite part about Scopus is learning how researchers and institutions – whether in academic, government or corporate organizations – are using Scopus.com and Scopus data and how it makes their job easier.

What’s your favorite feature or search to run in Scopus?

I enjoy looking up topics that have personal relevance. I recently did some research on a fairly new, rare disease that someone I know is afflicted with. By entering the keyword, hitting Analyze Results and then clicking into the institution that has the most output I quickly found the top researcher in the field. And since Scopus publishes articles-in-press, I was able to see what cutting-edge research is being done. All in about 2 minutes!

What do you do in your free time?

In my free time I play on an expat (field) hockey team here in Amsterdam. We lose a lot (Dutch women are the world champs in hockey) but we have a lot of fun and it keeps me somewhat fit. I'm also an avid consumer of information in all forms -- I am seldom without a book, magazine or Kindle.
