Name: Surya Nedunchezhiyan
Job title: Engagement Manager
Can you tell us a bit about yourself? I’m a small-town person who moved to the big city to attend Law school. I am proud to be the first female in the family to graduate Law school. I have worked in Insurance, Banking, and now in the Publishing industry. When I am not working or cleaning the house, you can find me with my nose buried on my Kindle, or in the nearby movie hall, off traveling somewhere I have never been.
When did you join Elsevier? Feb 2012 as a Journal Manager.
What do you love most about your job? To be a part of making the ground-breaking research available to as many people as we can and as fast as we can.
What’s the last book you read? I just finished ‘The One Minute Manager by Ken Blanchard and Spencer Johnson’, recommended by my mentor.
What was your favorite subject in school? Physics. It explains how the universe works, and to this date, it never ceases to amaze me. As an added benefit, it helped me to understand 'The Big Bang Theory' better ;)
How would you explain your job to a stranger on a bus? In simple terms, ‘we develop products that help researchers, students, scientists, and funding agencies to discover scientific research easily.’
What’s one thing you want people to know about Elsevier? As a company, we are old and young at the same time. The business dates to the 15th century and, yet we keep up with the time. Adaptability is one of the best strengths of Elsevier when it comes to its people, policies, and technology.
Tell us about a time you made a content partner smile! Though there are many, there is one moment I always cherish where the content partner acknowledged it grandly and, you can see it here:
What’s the most exciting part of your job? The people I work with, be it my colleagues or the customers. Thanks to them, there is never a dull day, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work with diverse and great personalities.
What keeps you awake at night? I like to think that it is my nocturnal nature. Shoutout to all the night owls out there.
