Here’s a guide to our 2022 development roadmap:

All Scopus product developments seek to address one of the following three themes:

Here’s a quick overview of what we are working on in 2022:

Ease of Use

As a part of our continuous customer discovery process, we recently redesigned Scopus to improve functionality and create a smoother, more intuitive experience for the user.

In 2022, we are continuing to make improvements that will ensure a better user experience, including:

  • Scopus Author Profiles on ScienceDirect: Improved integration between Scopus and ScienceDirect in support of an enhanced user journey. This aims to provide context about authors for users in ScienceDirect and to help our author profiles reach a broader, more global audience.
  • Search results redesign: Includes better access to review and refine search queries, easier ‘refine results’ filtering, and the ability to toggle between a table and a list view of results.
  • Redesign of the ‘Combine queries’ functionality: Provides intuitive support for users refining searches and conducting systematic reviews.
  • Header and footer improvements: Includes an improved menu design, a quick link to a claimed author profile and a responsive design allowing easier navigation on smaller screens.
  • Continued improvements to the Author Feedback Wizard: Incorporation of new data types including awarded grants; and a more streamlined way for Scopus users in Spain to export to FECYT CVN.
  • User Privacy Center improvements: The Elsevier Privacy Center will include more information about personalized features on Scopus.

Better research signals

We are delivering more and improved insights, making it easy for you to identify opportunities, track activity and source crucial data for decision-making.

In 2022, we are releasing new features to help you gain early signals about research, including:

  • Improvements to offerings related to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs): Includes the ability to export SDG labels, view the SDGs that are mapped to a particular organization profile, and more.
  • Continual improvement of awarded grants data on Scopus Author Profiles: User feedback will allow for continual improvement of the data; and the data will continue to expand to include additional regions and funding sources.

Search and analytics

With our state-of-the-art search tools and filters, you can discover critical information, monitor trends, and identify subject experts. Meanwhile our analytics tools make it simple to visualize, compare and export the data you uncover.

In 2022, Scopus is undertaking an overhaul of its search functionality to ensure a smoother, faster experience for Scopus users.

  • Researcher discovery pilot: Allows users to conduct a keyword search to find relevant researcher matches and quickly build a view of the individuals contributing to a particular field.
  • Full-text access improvements for a more streamlined path from discovery to access: Enables users to easily find and make use of the full-text version of the research content they are looking for.
  • Author Full Names now included for easier disambiguation of authors with common family names: Author full names are now included on document details page. In addition, a new export field, “Author full names”, has been introduced when exporting a single document. Availability for multiple document export will take place in 2022.
  • Redesign of the Scopus export service to optimize ease of use: Includes easier access to the selection of export formats and to the range of documents being exported. In addition, the limit for the number of records that can be exported to Mendeley to will increase to 2,000.
  • Improvements to Scopus Search functionality: Ensures a smoother, faster experience for Scopus users. The improvements are planned in a way that will minimize disruptions to the current Scopus experience, while maximizing the speed at which these improvements can take place.
