ShanghaiRanking Consultancy (SRC) launches Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2016 using Scopus data and SciVal metrics

We are pleased to announce that the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy (SRC) is using Scopus data and metrics from SciVal analytics for its Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2016. The recently released ranking ranks global universities in 7 engineering subjects, including Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Energy Science & Engineering, Environmental Science & Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

This new subject ranking continues the SRC’s use of transparent methodology and third-party data. Ranking indicators include those measures of research productivity, research with high quality, research with top quality, average global research impact, extent of international collaboration, extent of academic-corporation collaboration, researchers with global academic influences, and academic awards.

We are pleased to announce that the recently-released "2016 Best Chinese University Ranking" report, based on evaluation by the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy (SRC), is again using Scopus data and metrics from SciVal.

The report provides a detailed look at key research performance indicators for more than 1,000 higher education institutions across mainland China. The ranking offers research management offices and higher education agencies an objective benchmarking of the research performance of higher education institutions. It also provides them with another set of metrics with which to strategically assess policy development and investments towards building the research capabilities of these universities.

Takeaways from the Times Higher Education MENA Universities Summit

Over the last year the MENA (Middle East and Northern Africa) region has seen very exciting developments in terms of research growth. This was further established at the inaugural Times Higher Education MENA Universities Summit that was recently held in Doha, Qatar. M'hamed Aisati (Director Content & Analytics, Elsevier) was there to talk about Scopus content and the breadth of coverage in the region.

M'hamed’s presentation gave a broad overview of the interdisciplinary scientific information available in Scopus, while stressing the value of research metrics in order to assess efficiently ongoing research and current developments – an area where Scopus plays a key role given its breadth of content and focus on quality through content selection by the independent Content Selection and Advisory Board (CSAB).

We are pleased to announce that the inaugural and recently-released "2015 Best Chinese University Ranking" report, based on evaluation by the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy (SRC), is using Scopus data and metrics from SciVal analytics. UK REF 2014 results released (and they use Scopus data!)

Yesterday marks a key milestone in the United Kingdom's REF 2014 journey. Following initial consultations in 2007 through to the deadline for submissions in November 2013, 155 higher education institutions across the UK have dedicated a huge amount of time and resource to this process. The results published December 17 will highlight both the quality and non-academic impact of each institution’s research, and mark the culmination of years of hard work.

As the impact of the results begins to be felt in early 2015, Elsevier will continue to offer support to HEFCE and all institutions, helping them to navigate the vast field of data. Like all of those involved, we will be taking key learnings from this process, and look forward to further developing our national assessment offerings for customers around the world.
