ShanghaiRanking Consultancy (SRC) launches Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2016 using Scopus data and SciVal metrics

We are pleased to announce that the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy (SRC) is using Scopus data and metrics from SciVal analytics for its Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2016. The recently released ranking ranks global universities in 7 engineering subjects, including Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Energy Science & Engineering, Environmental Science & Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

This new subject ranking continues the SRC’s use of transparent methodology and third-party data. Ranking indicators include those measures of research productivity, research with high quality, research with top quality, average global research impact, extent of international collaboration, extent of academic-corporation collaboration, researchers with global academic influences, and academic awards.

We are pleased to announce that the recently-released "2016 Best Chinese University Ranking" report, based on evaluation by the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy (SRC), is again using Scopus data and metrics from SciVal.

The report provides a detailed look at key research performance indicators for more than 1,000 higher education institutions across mainland China. The ranking offers research management offices and higher education agencies an objective benchmarking of the research performance of higher education institutions. It also provides them with another set of metrics with which to strategically assess policy development and investments towards building the research capabilities of these universities.

As 2015 comes to an end, it’s time to reflect upon the year and look at how Scopus has, and will continue to, evolve. Over 3 posts, we share key 2015 Scopus developments and their impact on the researcher. Each post covers a different focus.

This third post focuses on the continuing trend in growth of data partnerships throughout 2015. While data partnerships may not directly impact everyday use of Scopus, the trend is a noteworthy 2015 highlight. Here is why:

Scopus chosen by Maclean’s magazine to enhance university rankings

We’re pleased to announce that Maclean's magazine is using Scopus data to enhance their annual ranking of Canadian universities. The rankings, which focus on Canadian institutions’ academic research and overall accomplishments, will now use research data and metrics from Scopus and SciVal.

The ranking methodology weighs factors that measure research productivity and performance, using a variety of bibliometric indicators such as publications and citations. Elsevier will provide data on the research publication output in 10 subject areas for a pre-determined list of 60 Canadian Universities. The subject areas include education, nursing, business and biology.

“Maclean’s chose Elsevier for the depth and breadth of its Scopus data base, as well as its experience working with other publications on rankings,” said Kim Honey, editor of special issues. “We’re excited to introduce our very first rankings by subject, and we have Elsevier to thank for that.”

QS renews agreement to use Scopus data for its World University Ranking

We have some great news to share on the Scopus front! QS, a global leader in university rankings, and Elsevier today announced their decision to renew their long-term collaboration. As part of the agreement, QS will continue to use Scopus data for its flagship World University Ranking, QS Top 50 Under 50, QS University Rankings for Asia, BRICs and Latin America.

This is truly an endorsement of the work team Scopus has done over the last 11 years – improving the quality of the Scopus database with a focus on increasing the breadth and depth of globally relevant coverage. 2014 – Scopus’ Year in Review

2014 was a banner year for Scopus featuring great releases, further content expansion for all content types and continuous product improvements based on your feedback. Let’s take a closer look at last year's high points:

  • First, 2014 marked the 10th anniversary of Scopus. Since its launch in 2004, Scopus has grown to become the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, containing 55 million records and more than 21,000 journals from all major fields.

Times Higher Education choose Scopus data for its World University Ranking

As you can tell from this post’s title, we have some great news on the Scopus front today!

Times Higher Education (THE), a global leader in university rankings, has today announced their decision to work with the Scopus database and SciVal, Elsevier’s research metrics analysis tool, for its World University Ranking and other rankings including the 100 Under 50, Asia University and BRICS & Emerging Economies rankings.

THE Managing Director Trevor Barratt has this to say about the newly minted partnership, “Research publication data for the rankings will in the future be drawn from Elsevier’s Scopus database. The new data source will allow us to analyze a deeper range of research activity from a wider range of institutions than at present, including those institutions from emerging economies that account for a growing portion of the world’s research output and which have shown a great hunger for THE’s trusted global performance metrics.”

Scopus Chosen by US News & World Report for Arab Region Ranking

On Tuesday, November 4, at the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) in Doha, Qatar, U.S. News & World Report, a leading U.S.-based publisher of education analysis and rankings, unveiled the inaugural Best Arab Region Universities rankings.

We’re pleased to announce that U.S. News' Best Arab Region Universities rankings, which focus on institutions’ academic research, are based on research data from Scopus and metrics powered by SciVal!

The ranking methodology weighs factors that measure research productivity and performance, using a variety of bibliometric indicators such as publications and citations. Each ranked Arab region university has a profile page on usnews.com displaying contact information and detailed ranking indicators. The overall rankings include 91 universities in 16 countries; there are also separate rankings in 16 subject areas, including key fields such as computer science, engineering, medicine, mathematics and social sciences.

Using the ‘Affiliation
