How to discover key influencers and uncover trends from your Scopus search results

Scopus indexes over 120,000 book titles; and, by using the <Analyze search results> tool in Scopus in tandem with searching book content, you can gain a powerful way of discovering key influencers and uncovering important trends. Scopus surpasses 120,000 indexed book titles!

Scopus has now surpassed its targeted goal of 120,000 books indexed since the Scopus Book Titles Expansion program was first announced, marking the conclusion of the project (10,000 books will continue to be added annually). Reflecting back on the original goal, this is 45,000 more books than initially planned.

This week the first ever #Academic Book Week is happening throughout the UK and beyond. Academic Book Week is a series of events, competitions, promotions and social media activity, all taking place from November 9-16, 2015.

Why does Scopus care about books? Increased coverage of Scopus book content provides researchers, especially those working in book-based disciplines, a broader frame of reference to complement what is published in primary research journals.

Scopus touches base with publishers at the London Book Fair

Each April the London Book Fair presents a great opportunity for Elsevier’s Publishing Relations team to catch up with all the third party publishers that make their content available to Scopus.

Meeting face-to-face with these publishers provides a wonderful chance to show them how Scopus is evolving, how their content is accepted and represented in Scopus, and to discuss ongoing business.

Scopus Content update: 75,000 book titles and counting

With more than 75,000 additional book titles now indexed in Scopus (and another 45,000 planned for 2015), it is easier to uncover the bounty of literature supporting great intellect.

Since our last content update in June, we’ve been busy moving the Scopus Books Expansion project along. To date, you can see more than 50,000 books in Scopus!

In mid-2013 Scopus launched the Books Expansion Project to increase the Arts and Humanities content in Scopus and the project has been steadily moving along. To date, you can see more than 40,000 books in Scopus!

How is the program going? Books from more than 30 major publishers such as Springer, Wiley-Blackwell, Elsevier, Brill, Walter de Gruyter, Princeton University Press, Palgrave Macmillan and Project Muse have already been selected and are being processed.

Scopus turns 10 this year (!) and we are doing a bit of looking back – and looking forward – to see how the database has grown from both a user and content perspective. One area that we thought would be interesting to focus on is the specific improvements Scopus has made in the coverage of the Arts & Humanities; below is a brief overview of a few content enhancement projects.
